I think you're right, it's just that sometimes a file is 'broken' only 
insofar as the FAT is corrupted, and scandisk can fix that.

Unfortunately it's not QEdit -- I get the bug using Pedit, and
I've had it using no external editor at all.  What is interesting is
that sometimes after I rebuild the project after making some change or
other, the nature of the bug changes.  I used to always see 4 random
characters, then an '!' and always at the beginning of a line.  Then it
changed to 5 random characters always ending in a '\' and always at the
end of a line -- go figure.  I'm almost certain it's a pointer error, and
it will float to the top sooner or latter.
