I wasn't aware that SCANDISK could actually repair files, just
that it found and flagged broken files, orphan sectors, and so
on.

Which files get damaged? It has been mentioned that certain types
of connection will damage the ARACHNE.CFG.

Although it has never happened to me, I play safe by running the
DOS command   COPY /Y TPG.ACF ARACHNE.CFG   in a batch file before
calling arachne.bat.
