Norton Commander is a file manager, very handy to copy - delete - view -
start - move - ..... files.
It has a two window modus. E.g. in the left window you show the Q-EDIT
directory and in the right window you have the arachne mail directory.
F5 copies the mail item, say message 08345678.cnm into Q-EDIT... not by
typing in this complicated name but just by marking the file you want
and pressing F5 for a copy, F6 for moving or F8 for deleting the file.

The files in a directory can be sorted by name, date/time or extension.

F3 is for viewing (text) and F4 brings you in editing mode with either
the internal editor or an external editor of your choice.

Norton commander offers more...

Right

See above explanation of Norton Commander.

Copied the file into QEDIT directory - did the editing - and copied it
back to arachne\mail\....

I first used WordStar in 1983 and still use it. What is awful about
these combinations? <GGGGGG> Matter of opinion :-))))

1- just mark them and press F5 or F6
Norton Commander gives date/time and lenght of the file to avoid
confusion. You may even change the name or the extension.

If you copied the original into QEDIT directory... the original is still
in arachne\mail.
You can first view the modified message before copying it back and NC
attends you that a file with that name alredy exists.
"Do you want to: overwrite, skip, rename, .....?"
And the original is also in QEDIT directory with a .bak extension.

Keep the message in the inbox after succesfully sending the reply :-)
The replies to both Arachne lists are returned to you and/or are in the
"SENT MAIL" directory.

The internal editor, F4, and "View and Save" discloses the results and
mistakes in HTML-editing at once...
