I think the Arachne Mail Composer (internal editor) works ok for
short emails. ( most emails are short and simple) And since you can
setup an external editor of your choice to use instead, there really
isn't a *pressing need* to muck about with the editor at all. 

People have strong and sometimes strange editor preferances and
swear by and at all sorts of editors with no agreements as to
what might be "standard" behavior once you get past the basics. 

A great way to start a long and involved discussion would be to 
ask *which* editor it would make sense to use instead.

Better to just give people the option of using whatever they want
(as they have now) and leave things alone.

Aren't there more pressing needs?
