Unfortunately that is the case with a lot of older shareware. The
owner shifts to a new email or snailmail address and doesn't
leave any forwarding information. This is VERY frustrating when
you want to do the right thing by him/her....

Quite possibly they would, _IF_ you can find them.
Other than that the only alternative I can think of is reverse
engineering it -- usually a no-no for obvious reasons, but when the
owner is no longer available what else is there?
