I certainly agree with Glenn McC that Yahoo is not a good choice.

I disagree. A spreadsheet means a fixed format. What do you do
when an extra field is required for some special notes on one or
more items, extra to what has been allowed for in setting up the
spreadsheet?

Plain text works!

As a case in point, I suggest you look at this:
http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/faqs/textfiles/

These are a long and complex documents that could have been
formatted as spreadsheets or databases, but weren't.

They WORKS in the text format, especially when read by a browser 
with a search function.

I'll go for plain text every time!

BTW, could I make a request for people to avoid excessive quoting
when posting to the freelists. It makes the digests very, very
long...
