Bastiaan,

When you perform this "crash back to DOS", are your sure
you aren't still in Windows 9X???  To check, at the command
prompt, type 
MEM/C/P
then press ENTER key...
many times WIN.COM is still loaded in memory...
I prefer to "Reboot" to my boot menu, THEN choose
to boot to command prompt...no WIN.COM loaded at all!
