Eric,
While running Windows, turn all scripting off in your web
browser UNLESS it is specifically needed for some purpose...
this includes JavaScript, ECMCAScript and ActiveX/IEScript.
If you feel JS is required, at least run a popup blocker,
try AnalogX for a GOOD free one for Win9X and later.
And, don't forget, you can close a "window" on the desktop
most of the time using ALT+F4...if that don't get it, get
Advanced TaskManager...way better than the standard Win9X
