DOS & Windows ME
****************
Windows ME has DOS (version 8.0) under the hood... the only problem is:
how to free DOS for use?
In Win ME the command interpreter COMMAND.COM can only be started from a
A:\ diskette.
However one can fool the system by changing just one byte in COMMAND.COM
Change the byte at address 6EAF in command.com from 02 to 03.
That is all that is needed to start from your hard disk... the system is
fooled and 'thinks' it is being started from A:\
(An other way to fool the system is to use an alternative command inter-
preter like 4DOS.)
******* Another approach
Repair with DOS4ME.zip
Win ME is started with WININIT.EXE that does link directly to windows,
so the system is not even looking at CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.
These files are present only for compatibility reasons!
With SETUP.EXE in DOS4ME.ZIP a new WININIT.EXE is created using
WININIT.BIN that allows a screen to chose between DOS and Win ME.
