Could it be that USB thumb drives are supported by your Dell's BIOS, much like
diskette drives, and are independent of operating system?
I have a Dell Inspiron 531S desktop, and Windows XP SP2 doesn't give the new
hardware found wizard just when accessing USB drives.
Accessing the wireless network adapter more likely than not will need a driver
designed for that brand/model of card.
Cisco models appear to be more supported by DOS drivers than other brands, from
what I've read...or brands that are very compatible. Try accessing the WiFi in
FreeDOS on your Dell and see if you can get any DOS apps "online"
