I have a built-in internal aironet wi-fi card in my Dell Latitude
D600 laptop.
It is recognized automagically by the PCLOS Linux operating system
and also by the Puppy Linux operating system. Works great! No
drivers to download and install and configure.
I don't know if this internal wi-fi card could work also under DOS.
Haven't tried it. My Dell Latitude D600 is a dual boot system which
has a FreeDos partition and also a linux partition on the hard drive.
When running it under FreeDOS I can even use my USB thumb drives!
Unlike Windoze, FreeDos will not make me have to deal with with any
stupid "found new hardware" wizards. With FreeDOS my USB thumb
drives are recognized instantly and automagically!
I wonder if it might be possible to get FreeDOS to recognize an
external USB wi-fi networking device?
