I've always stayed online to read and respond to mail. It just seems
the "natural" thing to do. Read, respond, send. Read, respond, send.
Back when I did lots of email it wasn't unusual for me to get
repsonses to my newly sent replies while I was still online.
Hardly ever do I compose replies offline. I write and send, write
and send. It just never made sense to save up a batch and then
send them altogether.
Writing replies offline means I'd have to go back online in order
to send them. Of course I have unmetered local phone service so it
doesn't cost be anything to be online--so I tend to stay there.
Incidently, here in the USA, the latest trend for long distance phone
service is untimed, flat rate service. Just pay a monthly fee
and talk all you want, whereever you want. There is excess capacity
here and the telcos are trying to sell it the best they can.
