[arachne] Video.AH

Arachne at FreeLists
Hi all,

Some thoughts on a Video.AH page and a GPL video player.

...

I've observed that QVpro provides the capability to view a video in
various display sizes (differing sizes of screen boxes). That
demonstrates (if anyone had any question of that capability) the
potential to write (and rewrite) to only a portion of a screen. QV does
this by first clearing the screen, then writing in whatever sized box the
user has selected.

Hmmm.

It's not really necessary to clear the screen, if the portion "outside
the box" does not detract from the video running "inside the box". For
example, if someone was to create a VIDEO.AH file for the purpose of
running and controlling videos, then the portion "outside the box" could
remain visible while the video was running. That might actually be an
attractive alternative to the current method.

This isn't a difficulty from the Arachne perspective. The VIDEO.AH page
would be easy to build. The difficulty lies in the video player (e.g.,
QVpro), as it would have to be rewritten specifically to function from
within the .AH page (to not clear the screen, to display the video at
specified locations, etc.).

Such a scheme does offer some interesting potential. The AH page could
also have some *pick lists*, *buttons*, or other *bells and whistles*
that could provide the "front end" for a video player. This could make
for a nice marriage of convenience for both Arachne and a video player.

Not that this has to be a priority, but perhaps somebody might come
across some creative ideas ... or even a GPL video player that can be
tweaked to work inside a Video.AH page.

Thought? Comments? (No fair throwing rotten tomatoes).
