For the last 6 months or so I have kept my main computer powered up and
permanently connected to the internet via DSL almost 24/7. And it has
never been infected by a virus. I have a dual boot system. It can run
Ubuntu Linux and Windoze XP. I only very seldomly allow my main
computer to be connected to the internet when I am running Windoze XP.
The only time I ever run Internut Exploder knowingly and intentionally
is when I am downloading and installing Windoze updates. Why would
anyone ever want to run Internut Exploder for any other purpose? I
don't know.

BTW, the only reason I installed Windoze XP was to make it possible for
me to use the software for my Magellan GPS device. Unfortunately they
don't have linux versions of the software and they don't have versions
that will work with Window$ 98SE. The software packages say that they
will run on Window$ 98SE systems. When I called the manufacturer's
technical support they told me that what it says on the package is just
an outright lie and that I need to "upgrade" to Window$ 2000 or Window$
XP.

Other than for the drawback of not being capable of running some of the
latest and greatest Window$ applications programs, Window$ 98SE is a far
superior operating system than Window$ 2000 or Window$ XP.

The very worst and most thoughtless design feature of Window$ 2000 and
Window$ XP operating systems is that you you can't even access your hard
drive with DOS and run Arachne or some other DOS-based internet programs
when your Window$ are broken.

Everybody ought to keep on hand a fully functional internet-capable DOS
or linux computer to use when almost everybody's Window$ get broken.
I really think that might happen one of these fine days. Window$
operating systems are so fragile and vulnerable.
