 Many, if not most, people with XP leave their computers on during the
day, or put them in "stand by" mode so that they are almost
ready to use.  Few people boot up just to check their email.

Thunderbird does seem quite slow to load when you click on an email
link in Thunderbird, however. Frustrating.

But, you're right. Nothing boots and runs like DOS.
