Sam,
You can still get good modems, RS-232 and USB. I use
a newer U.S.Robotics 56k V.92 that works great with
DOS and every OS I've used. Newegg.com is a really
good place to buy hardware, I've gotten a bunch of
stuff from them. Using compression I can get a port
speed of 115,200 bps, with mine. Check out the links
below. Warning some are soft modems.

Yeah, all you need is a DSL line, a network card and some advice
from a DOS networking expert. And then you can run Arachne on an
up-to-date computer. Or you can use a "legacy" connection if you
can find the right kind of modem like the one Glenn managed to
Google up somehow.
So it's possible at least. Just not very likely. You have to know
what you're doing and know what to look for.
