Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!
Hi Udo,
You obviously didn't understand my
post because I said that I just now installed
the latest Arachne distribution from glennmcc's
site over my existing installation and the resulting
installation was not entirely correct. Arachne does
not use the existing configuration files BUT it
writes new files using SOME of the info found in
the existing config files. The new config files did
not have all my settings from the old files. This
is not the first time I have installed over an existing
installation. You are not the only one who has tried
this. That is why we know it is not the best/safest
way to go. You can do what ever you want to do...
I don't care...BUT...dont tell us we don't know
what we are talking about... Don't tell us we are
paranoid because we don't want to screw up
a working installation of Arachne. And some
of us do care if Arachne installaion program
fits on a single floppy. And I didn't imply that
Arachne was bloated...I implied the opposite.
I said that many other programs are and we
don't want Arachne to become bloated.
I'm glad you found the "read only" bug in the
Arachne installation program. You are right
that bugs must be reported or they don't get
fixed. But....please don't call those of us who
wish to maintain a working installation of
Arachne while we do an upgrade paranoid! <ggg>
So long,
Eric
