Udo,
I mentioned absolutely nothing about bootloaders. I
think you are the one with a lack of knowledge about
Linux. DOS has nothing todo with my comments. You
continually come up with stuff that means nothing in
'nix. You seem to base all your comments on the use of
one certain Linux that is no longer maintained.
Kent Robotti himself has come up with a much better
version. Many of your comments about Linux are really
ridiculous, and only meant to confuse people who are
not familiar with it's use, in the hopes that they will
continue to use your Sacred Cow. I like DOS, but it has
severe limitations compared to more advanced systems,
even the NTs. That is why it is dying off. You can
bluster about DOS all you want, and denigrate other
systems all you want, but that will not save the
dinosaurs. DOS will not be the OS of the future!
Maybe something totally different than what is in
use today. Get used to it.
Rob

A deprecated Linux meant to be run off of a DOS
bootdisk floppy is not really representative of
Linux in general. Besides you could have just loaded
the module for Promise, promise.o.

Rob,
this just shows how little you know about Linux. It does not matter
whether you load the Linux kernel with LiLo or with LoadLin; once it is
running, there is hardly any difference. Also, if you would have read my
mail beyond the word "DOS", you would know that part of my problem was
the fact that no stable kernel existed at that point of time that
included the Promise driver.
Besides, you missed the point. My point was that Linux would not even
need a special driver since it would already have used the existing
driver to load the kernel, so there is no reason why it could not also
use it as a fallback. FreeDOS-32 does this, so there is nothing that
would keep Linux (which is allegedly more advanced than FD-32) from
doing the same.
Regards,
Udo
