It does not matter whether you load the Linux kernel with LiLo or with LoadLin; once it is running, there is hardly any difference. Also, if you would have read my mail beyond the word "DOS", you would know that part of my problem was the fact that no stable kernel existed at that point of time that included the Promise driver. Besides, you missed the point. My point was that Linux would not even need a special driver since it would already have used the existing driver to load the kernel, so there is no reason why it could not also use it as a fallback. FreeDOS-32 does this, so there is nothing that would keep Linux (which is allegedly more advanced than FD-32) from doing the same.
