   Arachne is continuously being developed and added to, and that is good.

   Support for '286 has already been dropped, and while not necessarily a good 
thing it was always inevitable. But the last version that DID run on a '286 
will still run on one. The same would apply if, or when, stuff is added that 
won't run on a '386/'486/whatever.

   Seems to me that what you are advocating is pretty much what is happening 
anyway.  And I am eager to see what else can be added to Arachne, either as 
exra tricks in the core, or as apms, or by modifying the screens that Arachne 
already has. My own version(s) are much customised, as they are for many on 
this list.
