Hi gang,

Yes ... Peter's letter was written in Greek. That was the "trade
language" used throughout the Roman Empire, especially in the eastern
Mediterranean area. For any writings from that time period, Greek would
be used unless the potential audience was exclusively a small group using
a different language and the message wasn't intended to be shared outside
the homogenous group.

The Greek word translated as "ass" in some older English versions of the
bible is (in English letters, I don't have a Greek script available)
pronounced "hoop-od-zoog'-ee-on", which means "an animal under the yoke".
Common usage of the word in Palestine in the first century referred to a
donkey.

The word, by the way, refers to neither male or female, specifically.
