It is recorded in the Gospels that Jesus did in fact speak Aramaic on at least one occasion. See Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34 where some of his exact words are recorded in Aramaic. It is likely also that he spoke Greek. See John 12;20-21 and Mark 7:26-29 where it is recorded that Jesus conducted conversations with some Greeks who sought him for help. In addition he probably spoke Latin. See Matthew 8:5-13 where the Bible records a lengthy conversation that Jesus had with a Roman centurion. It is evident that he also spoke Hebrew because he frequently quoted and cited passages from the laws of Moses. As a very young man he studied the scriptures among the rabbis. He himself would later be addressed by his followers as "rabbi". Also, somewhere, and during some rather lengthy period in his life he might have read and studied and learned to thoroughly understand several ancient Sanskrit religious texts. There are many highly reputable scholars of Eastern Religion who are of the opinion that Jesus is a Buddhist. At the URL named below you will find some very interesting reading about that: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/buddhism/jesus.htm Is Jesus a Buddhist ? / jesus1.htm Sam Heywood -- This mail sent via the Arachne Browser, GPL version 1.83 Beta Arachne at FreeLists -- Arachne, The Web Browser/Suite for DOS and Linux --
