Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!
Hi Sam E.,
Your assumptions are wrong.
I have followed enough of these connection
problems....both my own personal ones
and other people's connection refusals to
know you are making a false assumption....
and....
you know the little ryhme about "assume". <ggg>.....
New users don't know enough about how
Arachne works to tackle editing the config
files.
What often happened was/is that when supplying
help, new users, or anyone with connection
problems, were often told by the helper to edit
a specific config file...because....that was the easiest
way to help for them. The connection problems are
caused because there are so many variations in the
connection protocols ISP's use...and...because it is
so hard or impossible to find out what protocol the
ISP is using. Many users were/are lucky enough to
get connected the first try with Arachne. Then they get
an email that their ISP is upgrading and they find out
that they can no longer connect. Actually, usually the
connection failure happens first.....then the email. :-}
