In running Arachne 190J1, and by using the telephone systems in
motels in various different areas in the southeast US, I have
used comtool and lsppp with no problem for dialing up and
connecting with my ISP, even when having to configure my dial
string to first dial 9, or in some cases to dial 8 to get an
outside line, and using a series of commas and then a PIN number
in the dial string following the 1-800 dialup number to produce a
short pause and a wait for entering a PIN number which my ISP
requires for customers using their 1-800 dialup number. I have
also used the same kind of very long dial strings to connect with
my ISP with various versions of Arachne when dialing out of
of various military installations. Of course I never did that
while I was working, but only while during my scheduled coffee
breaks : ) To dial out of a military installation or from most
government offices in the US one usually must first dial 9 to get
an outside line.
