I've posted using similar technique, but used NetMail for DOS as the MTA, mail
transport agent, and NE text editor to compose messages, Readmail 4.1 to read
and save attachments, and FCode to decode mime64,UUE & XXE attachments such as
images...LxPic makes handy viewer and is small size.

Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!
Hi! I'm a longtime viewer of the list, but have never before attempted
to post anything to it. Although at one time I considered myself to be
"computer literate", I have long since been left in the dust, and most of the
postings are much too advanced for me to be able to be a viable
contributor. I've had a few private communicatons with Sam H. and Glenn,
but usually about non-arachne issues. However, a few things have come up
now and then that I would have liked to comment on for what it might be
worth, but didn't really know how to go about posting to a list. This is by
way of an experiment. I don't use a regular E-mail program (is "client" the
correct terminology?), but rather a very simple protocol set up for me by
my "guru" (fdsmtpop), which is lightning-fast, requires only a few key-strokes
to receive messages directly into WordPerfect 6.1, and a couple
more to send messages out. The only disadvantage is that I can only
receive graphics "raw", but as they seldom interest me it's minor. If this
actually goes through and appears in the list, I'll post now and then if and
when there is something that I can contribute. Otherwise, I'll just keep on
viewing in the background as I have for some years. As we Ham Radio
operators used to put it, the handle here is Nels. 73 Nels
