I had never heard the story that the translation committee assembled
under appointment by King James I had included the Apocrypha in the first
edition. All of the editions of the King James Version translation that
I have seen are purported to be the "authorized" version of 1611, i.e.,
the version "authorized" by King James I. None of them include the
Apocrypha.

According to a Roman Catholic nun who was my school teacher when I was
in the eighth grade, all of the translations of the Bible authorized by
the then current pope and all past pontiffs of the Roman Catholic Church
include the Apocrypha. Of course she was of the opinion that all the
popes are much better qualified than a king of England to determine which
books ought to be included in a translation of the Bible. Was she wrong
about her understanding of history that King James I did not want to
include the Apocrypha?

Yes, that info would be interesting. When I post to Usenet I always use
Pine or Nettamer or Lynx. Those programs provide direct support for
making newsgroup posts. I don't know how to do newsgroup posting with
Arachne. I already know about an email to fax service known as TPC.
I sometimes use the service. Another service which I signed up for and
sometimes use is the free fax-to-email service known as efax. See
"http://www.efax.com"; for details. A requirement for viewing and/or
printing a fax received as an email through the free efax service is
their proprietary fax viewer program that is available for free from the
efax web site. Unfortunately the viewer program works only with Window$.
You will not want to use the current version of the viewer because it is
a big bloatware application and a big resource hog with lots of needless
bells and whistles. I don't believe the current version can run in
Window$ 95. I use the old version for Window$ 95. The old version for
Window$ 95 is available for download at my gopher hole. You can no longer
get it from the efax web site. There are some alternative classes of
service available from "efax.com" that are not for free. With the
alternative classes of service you can get 1-800 fax numbers and fax
numbers in your local calling area. Also you can view their fax-to-emails
without having to use their proprietary software, but there is a price to
pay for that class of service. If you want to pay the price for the
service fees, you may view your fax-to-emails by using any standard generic
TIF image viewer designed for whatever operating system you are using.
