[arachne] Re: Moderation -in all things!

Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

Hi guys and gals,

Back into Scotland from Spain for a few weeks and downloaded 330=
 e's
from arachne, free and cool lists.

Regarding the moderation of the list, as owner of the arachne4dos=

list, the coolist.com one, as far as I know the double opt-in on=
 the
list joining page has fairly effectively kept the spam, junk and=

erotic offerings out of the list. Long may this continue!

In the event something does get through, both L.D. and myself=
 have
access to remove an offender, but so far this has not been=
 necessary.

Essentially, since we are all gentlemanly (and gentlewomanly)
persons, likewise the moderation of the list has not been=
 necessary
with a big fist, but rest assured a real flame war would not be
tolerated. Again, long may this state of affairs continue!

OTOH, for the benefit of any NEW joinees (making up words now!
"joinees") the history of this list is that it was set up in one=
 heck
of a hurry to provide a "temporary"?? "emergency"?? meeting=
 point,
and was initially not expected [by me at least] to be likely to=
 be
needed for more than a few weeks! I hate to think how long ago=
 that
was now!

Soooh! yes it's got warts and a few boils (not in the subscribers=

GRIN!), but it' still doing a reasonable job and it's free,=
 except
for the one-line advert from coolist at the bottom.

It would be very nice if someone on the list, either free or cool=

flavour, who had experience of running a small server set-up or
similar, could look at providing a mailing-list facility with a
dedicated machine and take over the function of both lists so=
 that
they are under the arachne community's control. Volunteer=
 anyone??

I just don't have this kind of experience or knowledge, I know=
 Glenn
has done the arachne bulletin board, and I've had this working=
 myself
quite well, but it would be nice to bring this "in-house" as it=
 were.

Regards

Mel
