I think a new install demands a new directory. Call it arachne2. Then
when the new install is working to your satisfaction you can delete
the old install and rename the new one. A little more work, but it
keeps things clean. Installing on top of old installs frequently
leads to trouble of various sorts--confused paths, mixed directories.
