[arachne] Re: MS Edit and GIF2IKN

Hiya List,

Been following along, but keeping silent most of the time, hehe!
Text editors are numerous, with various capabilities, key-combos,
as well as short-comings. The vast majority of DOS users are
using some flavor of MS DOS, and anything from version 5 on up
come with MS Edit. A bonus is you can use MS Edit from DOS 7
that comes with Windows 95 and later on ANY DOS PC. Without the
need to have QBASIC in the path, it is standalone. Although I
do the majority of my emailing outside Arachne in DOS using
NetMail 2.12 from Marc Ressl and the freeware editor NE, MS Edit
will handle virtually all my other needs. NE does have multi-
document capabilities, but has a limit of 64kb file size. In
all reality though, simple email rarely exceeds 64kb, except
for attachments...then I use Arachne. Never had a problem with
odd characters inserted, lost messages...but I also don't use
"External Editor". Hmmmm...

On the second subject, the GIF2IKN convertor...I think I may
have figured something out as to getting the all-blank IKN images...
I'll be testing later and let you know. It appears you need to
"crop" the image being converted to only include the actual little
picture, otherwise the white background is all that is created.
Will test and let you know!
