Udo,
It seems most of the specialized Usenet search engines only store about 1 yrs
worth of messages...Giganews, etc.
Might try www.binsearch.info And see how far back it goes. Funny, but doing
just a generic "google" of myself turns up old, some VERY old, postings on
Usenet, as far back as 1996??? Those seem to be archived all over the world,
like someone just harvested posts from variety of NNTP servers?? Anyway, I
haven't used NNTP in probably 5 yrs or so...too much spam.

Subject: [arachne] Looking for a good Usenet search engine
Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!
Hi all,
does anyone know a good search engine that works with Arachne and can
find Usenet postings? I used to use the Google groups search, but it
has become very bad recently and hardly finds anything anymore. For
example, I searched comp.os.msdos.programmer for "DR-DOS" and there
was not a single hit even though there are numerous posts regarding
DR-DOS. The other search engines I tried were not better; either they
were not compatible with Arachne or their search index included only a
few thousand messages. I know that the chances are probably slim if
even Google is not up to the task, but perhaps somebody knows a search
engine that can do what Google no longer can.
Regards,
Udo
