[arachne] Re: Introduction

Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

Greetings Nels!

First, may I compliment you on that marvelous red anachronistic VW Bug you are apparently the proud owner of. May JC Whitney always have the parts you need to keep in running order and lookin' good. <G>

If you hang around here very long you'll discover that many of the members are also "anachronisms" ... DOSasaurs generally of the "don't trust anyone over 30" untrustworthy semi-elders ilk.

I myself am 65 and counting and, although I used to be very involved in tweaking and playing with Arachne (designed and built and entire website using nothing more than what came with Arachne close to a decade ago), I'm pretty much a spectator now. That's me, LD. <G> If you ask the guys they may advise that I'm capable of throwing hissy fits on occasion but generally am well behaved and semi-silent.

Being too smart for my own good, I'm a former journalist, a former elementary school teacher, a former -- heavens forbid! -- Community Activist (in San Francisco) who has acquired various certifications and degrees which do little but gather dust hanging on the walls. I'm now on a "back to simple" kick which will (I continue to think positive) involve reducing my "carbon footprint" at a new (to me, if I'm lucky) home in SW NM which would include solar radiant heating and hot water systems, limited solar electric backup for essentials, growing many of my own veggies -- all in the laziest way possible. I would also like to continue working in Shiba Inu (a breed of dog) Rescue.

I believe that everyone who participates in this list on a regular basis is of above average intelligence, although some would deny it. Being too smart for ones own good tends to teach rather harsh lessons at times.... this list might actually be where many hide their personal candle under a bushel basket. (I just know I'm gonna catch h e double toothpicks for that. <GGGG>)

One of the best things about this list is that regardless of vocabulary most will understand what you say... and yet it can be very relaxed and undemanding of both proper grammar and syntax. You can let your hair down (optional ... if you have any left) and get away with misspelling words, dangling participles, and totally incomplete sentences.

The goal here is to communicate but whatever methodologies which work.

Sorry this is so long; didn't have time to spend making it smaller. <G>

Again, welcome!

l.d.

Attempting to eliminate verbosity on the one hand and redundancy on the
other is no mean feat for an 88-year old curmudgeon that has found himself
