You may very well be right about all that, Eric.

I looked at the disk partitioning scheme and the files
on the hard drive while I was running Puppy Linux in a
ram drive. The hard drive has three partitions, one
FAT 16 partition and one FAT32 partition and one ntfs
partiion. Don't understand it at all. I will need to get
ahold of an WinXP setup disk to reformat it and then
re-install the operating system. BTW, in spite of however
screwed up the setup and partitioning of the hard disk are,
and strange as it seems, I got this computer to run very
fast and to work just fine after I removed from it oodles
of spyware programs and after I removed from it lots of
useless bloaIware and after I upgraded the memory from
256 MB to 768 MB.

I have no idea why this computer was thrown away. At a
cost of only $20 for a 512 MB ram chip I was able to get it
to run WinXP just fine. This is a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz CPU
with 2 optical drives, a CD-ROM drive and a CD-Rewritable
drive. Any average computer aficionado high school student
could have told the previous owner that to fix his computer
he would need only to clean out all the spyware and the
bloatware and to install another ram chip.
