III. Arachne's Revenge

I think Arachne invented the Internet.
I think she was there when ARPAnet connected California and Utah,
weaving the threads that would one day become
the international computer network.
She spread her wide web across the world,
so that I can talk with anyone, anywhere.
The world may have been woven together in her web,
but sometimes I feel much lonelier,
sitting alone before my computer,
chatting with someone who is in front of a computer half a world away.
Athena may inspire the inventors,
but it is Arachne's web in which we are entangled.
Arachne's revenge:
her loom may be empty of tapestries now,
but she has caught humans in her web,
and bound them to their computers and networks and cables.
