Hey All.
I think the computer is an appliance. It's a modern convenience
to get something done. It's just not considered to be a hobby to
alot of people. It's a tool for tasks or entertainment like a
car or TV. I doubt that every person on this list would rebuild
the transmission or throttlebody on their car or rebuild a
circuit in their TV. Many people's lives nowadays are too busy
for that. A friend of mine had an IMac, then got a PC with XP.
She's now back to Mac and much happier for it. She has a degree
in Fine Arts from the University, and the Mac suits her much
better, and she couldn't give a crap about a file extension.
Why should she. She just wants it to work. There's a reason
DOS is dying, it doesn't work for people in a modern world,
and like it or not, consumers are the last judge of a product.
BTW, I mainly use a keyboard and hardly touch a mouse, but the
mouse is just a tool to make life easier for people, I see
nothing wrong with it's use. People are going to use what works
best for them.

Hi Jason, Glenn G.,
It is my opinion that Apple devotees think
just like the Windows devotees. The Apple
bunch just have allegence to another brand.
They are composed mostly of individuals who
don't care what the file extension is or what
the extension means. They are just interested
in what key to push to get a final result. The
computer to them is just another appliance
like a TV . Oops, not exactly correct....they
would rather click on an icon than press a key !
I have no desire to follow in their footsteps !!!

You know, something that most of us on this list forget about is
the economics involved with tech gadgets, peripherals included. We
salvage stuff, by flea market bargains, dumpster dive, etc.,
so....how can we possibly expect OEMs to cater to our very
specialized needs? The ROI just isn't there to justify the expense
of supporting some of our gadgets. Plus, if you want to see an OEM
go bankrupt, convince them to forego 90 percent of possible
market/sales and forget about getting their gadget "Certified for
Windows".
One final thought...in the Mac club, you rarely see complaints
about Apple "no longer supporting the Mac 6,7" etc, no bitching
about lack of drivers for the old Apple Lisa...the users EXPECT to
totally and completely replace their Mac hardware and software, not
carrying 25 yrs plus of baggage with them to the new Mac OS.
Perhaps we in the old PC club expect too much?? I don't know, but
I sometimes wonder.
Na, the apple model is worse in my opinion.
The bitching isn't about the lack of drivers(well some bitch about
that). Rather it's about the lack of specs so the community can
create
drivers. Then again they'll reverse engineer it if it comes to
that.
Yeah, apple owner are nuts.
