Udo,
You run thru a Unix server everytime you get on the 'net
or use Google or Yahoo or whatever. Most likely the only
DOS you run thru is your own personal PC. Most apps I've
seen new for DOS are ports from Linux. DOS lost almost
all it's share 20 years ago. Linux is gaining market share.

DOS is dying, it doesn't work for people in a modern world,

DOS is not dying, DOS is becoming better every day. If you say that
DOS is dying just because it has been losing market shares to
WindowsNT, you also have to say that Unix is already dead. At least
DOS did have something to lose.

and like it or not, consumers are the last judge of a product.

This may be true, but most people judge an OS by the number of
programs for it they are interested in that do not exist for any other
OS. The users did not switch to WindowsNT until most software was only
being written for the Windows platform; before that, they were happily
using DOS.

For the same reason people buy video game consoles even though their
hardware is rather limited compared to PCs and they do not even have
something that deserves to be called an OS.

Udo
