It was a standard for recording data on audio cassette. "1"s were
represented by a 1200 Hz tone and "0"s by a 2400 Hz tone. The data rate
was usually 300 bits/sec, although I did see some circuitry to transmit
at 1200 bits/sec, where a "1" was one half-cycle of 1200 Hz, and "0" was
one full cycle of 2400 Hz. the tones were sqare wave, which was rounded
off to an approximate sine wave by the action of the cassette recorder.
One of the electronic magazines once issued a 33-1/3 rpm audio disc
recorded with Kansas City data for a particular kit computer.
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
