Ahem, yes, I suppose so. ;-)

But even if I am only a youngster, I still remember the dial-up times.

My first modem was a 19.2 Kbps terbo modem, and when others cursed me
because their 28.8 Kbps modems did not support the terbo mode so the
negotiated speed was only 14.4 Kbps, I replied "my modem is faster than
this, it must your modem that slows down the connection" which really
made them hopping mad. ;-)

BTW, the BTX service in Germany (which later became Datex/J) only
supported 1200 bps downstream and 75(!) bps upstream at that time, so it
took quite some time to download a file from there even with the fast
modem.

I later upgraded to 56.6 Kbps, which did not really live up to the
promises, and in 2001, I got DSL with 768 Kbps. Quite a difference.

Unfortunately, Arachne seems to have a bandwidth cap at cca 250 Kbps, so
upgrading to 2048 Kbps did not really improve my download speed, but at
least it is still better than with the old modem.

Regards,

Udo
