The USB card reader/writers I've tried all have their
own drivers for Win98, so unless someone has made DOS
software for talking to the Coolpix I think you're
wasting your time :-(
I checked the specs for one Coolpix model and see that
it uses Compact Flash cards. You should be able to find
a DataFab parallel port card reader/writer somewhere
for very little money. They have DOS drivers, but I
don't know whether there's a capacity limit in the size
of card they'll read. Some fairly recent cameras and
card readers had a 1GB capacity limit.
We'll assume your PC or laptop has a parallel port, and
that you've got other activities like sleeping or taking
a walk in the fresh air you can occupy yourself with
while waiting for a transfer to complete ;-)
