Getting a recent model laptop these days has become a crazy problem
because of hidden changes in hardware that are not necessarily
compatible with installing DOS. (I recently failed with a Compaq (which
may have had some mechanical problems) and subsequently failed with an
IBM thinkpad which apparently was sound but seemed to have some
idiosyncracies.
I have just taken a bit of a gamble by buying a refurbished Dell Pentium
4 laptop which, after I bought it but before I received it, turned out
to have a floppy drive but to my surprise, a USB FLOPPY DRIVE. The
laptop is still too days away on a UPS truck, but I am trying to prepare
myself for whatever unpleasant surprises recent technology has provided
to replace or supplement the old reliable technology of yesteryear.
In particular, can anyone tell me anything about what problems I might
face in trying to install PCDOS7-2000 in the laptop with "standard 1.44
floppy disks" Is the USB floppy drive likely to accept that procedure or
is an attempt to install PCDOS that way likely to court disaster.?
If anyone has any experience using standard floppy's with a USB floppy
drive, I would appreciate your comments.
