I have addressed my problems to that list. And I have received
some MUCH more useful advice than "just delete it and start
again".
But people here keep sending me messages with suggestions and
questions that I feel I should reply to.

And the documentation that comes with the thing is virtually
non-existent. Even "man" and "info" don't work.

May I suggest that you go into it with an open mind, and ignore
everything you have ever learned about it before.... hmmmm....
that's is almost imposible to do, I know, but it is the only way
you would be able to appreciate the problems a new user faces.
