Greg,

You really need to address the Basic Linux mailing list. Lots of people
are using it sucessfully. Tell them your problems. Ranting and raving
here will do you no good.

Linux is not simple. It's hard to learn because of it's complexity.
Being your own system administrator is what they call a "non-trivial"
task.

As I've said before "imagine DOS on steroids". Nobody was born knowing
this stuff. It has to be learned. Basic Linux is supposed to be a learning
tool for someone with a working DOS sytem to explore Linux with. It should
work "right out of the box". Since it is not working that way for you I bet
the Basic Linux list will want to know about your problems.

If I have time over the holidays I'll try a download and install myself.
