'cuz they are not in the US, not in any regional dialect I've learned ... and I can understand all -- except a strong Cajun one.

I think it more likely that the use of "ass" instead of "arse" is of UK origin, similar to my use of pixx instead of the vernacular for urine.

P.S. Anyone want to guess what my special certification for teaching was? English ... I love the language because it can express more in fewer words than just about any other language. If that were not true, there is no way I could have kept my columns complete but still within the column-inch parameters requirement/limit.
