Like most tools, they can be misused. And with all the gadgets and
features that are offered with them these days, they can be addictive.

It requires a strong person to own one and use it just for essential
phone calls. So far I have managed it, and kept my bill down to about $2
to $3 a month.

That's actually quite a lot cheaper than my land line!
