Ah, I see it all. I did not try XDIR with the /S option.

I wasn't. That was just an extra that I found with LOCATE.

Perhaps you should give more information when you suggest a solution.

Which I tried, and it didn't do what I wanted.

DOSBOOK DIR takes me only to the opening screen of DOSBOOK. From there I
clicked on INDEX, and scrolled down to DIR. The page that opened from
that did not mention XDIR.
Since then I have scrolled the index down to XDIR where I do get a page
that explains all about it.
Thank you anyway for your suggestion, which now gives me three solutions
to the problem.
