[arachne] Re: Cache Index

Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

I'm very sorry to hear that, Kevin.

Although the Core I posted was a fresh build, I have been using
my modified version quite extensively for one and a half months
now and it has been "rock solid" (this is no surprise, since the
changes I have made are well defined and do not impact on any
other parts of the code). Also, note that there have been about
10 downloads from my website and no one else has reported
any problems.

I have had similar (actually, much worse) experiences with
official releases of Arachne, but don't know the cause. I don't
think I've had this type of crash since switching from 'epppd'
to 'lsppp', so you might like to install my 'lspppcfg' package
and make the switch too. (BTW, I'd recommend my modified
version of lsppp, V1.01 <g>.)

Incidentally, my modified Core would not have helped for the
problem you were trying to fix (incompatible cache error). For
that you need wwwman 1.75 (as I believe you now know). The
only enhancement my modified Core provides is an Online
Timer for BOOTP mode using PPP (I think SLIP gets the
same benefit, but I can't test/verify this).

Joe.
