Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

I used to run bogus user-agents, but I think it's better
if websites know that there are people that want to use
something other than IE or whatever. The one exception is
my BSD box. My user-agent on it is arachne, even tho I
haven't been able to get Arachne to run on it yet.

The kind of guitar I want to play is mean, mean licks.

What options do we have to masquerade Arachne as Another Browser and Operating
System? Is it easy to build in?

I ask because of this nonsense:

As an ex-pat Brit, I am horrified at the way the UK is developing in any
number of ways, but this has the distinct odour of brown paper bags stuffed
with money !

It would be simple to make the useragent string an arachne.cfg option,
but would that be enough to fool these things? It does sound like fun
tho, you could report your browser as anything you want. If someone
wants to try it out in my core let me know and I'll build it in,
otherwise Glenn will probably add it to std. core.

You know I will have a play with that when you do it. :)
If Opera and Firefox can do it, then of course Arachne should have it, too !

The downside, of course, is that the Arachne stats around the web will become
even smaller.
OTOH: I don't think that many web logs even record Arachne separately, but just keep the
more high-profile browsers stats and put everything else into "other".

I think my domains are unusual in that they do record Arachne visits, right
down to the version numbers.

Regards,
       Ron
