Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!
Hey Eric!
No, Udo has recited those "statistics" previously. At one time, prior to the
turn of the century/millenium, xChaos, Michal Polak, urged all Arachne users to
visit the Browserwatch page, read the write-up on Arachne, and boost the
numbers. That was back around Arachne 1.66, IIRC. A lot of us did just that,
I even visited in WizLynx, just to see what it would do. Anyway, the website
had a disclaimer in regards to browser stats, something to the effect that
those numbers did not extrapolate to general internet browsing patterns,
because his "target audience" was a very narrow group of web/software
developers and affionados. Udo fails to mention any "percentages", I don't
remember them exactly since they changed weekly, but MS IE typically garnered
well over 90 percent, followed by NetScape (yes, Netscape, not Mozilla), Lynx
(various ports/platforms) and Opera. Arachne was usually listed in "other"
category, especially when xChaos abandoned it post version 1.70rel3. I don't
remember the exact date that Browserwatch became "defunct", but I don't think
it lasted much past 2000, certainly not 2001...anyway not when I tried to
visit.
