Hi John, folks,

yeah, the old pdf thing :-)

Get a GS 7.05 distro, install to c:\gs (otherwise there are strange effects
with GS), and get the old 7.05 DOS compile here:
http://djvomght.dyndns.org:8008/gs705dos.zip. Replace the exe with the one from
the zip. Then get http://djvomght.dyndns.org:8008/pdf2htm.zip and follow the
directions from the doc file.

Pdf2htm uses GS to render the pdf to a bunch of graphics (one for each page in
the pdf) and compiles a set of html pages for viewing with Your favorite
browser.

HTH Jörg

PS: It's good to see that development of Arachne is not dead, but at the moment
I don't have to much time to work on pdf2htm or other DOS stuff :-(

Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

This is a fresh statement of my PDF question and difficulties to date. But
I imagine that some of you could resolve this with no difficulty.

Is anyone viewing PDF files *with images* under DOS (I'm using FreeDOS)?

I understand that some implementation of Ghostscript is the way to go, but
so far I haven't been able to get it to work.

I also understand that there are a couple of Ghostscript GUI's for DOS
(PSView/PS_View and one other usually mentioned second), but these rely on a
working command-line installation.

I understand further that there is an Arachne plug-in that will rely on a
working Ghostscript installation, but so far I don't know what it's called
or where to find it.

More on the Ghostscript distros:

Aladdin/GNU Ghostscript v5.10 is supposed to be outdated in some respect
(video support?) and I have failed with it so far.

There is more than one v7.05 distro out there, at least some of which are
not complete but rely on a basic installation from another distro. (Patrice
Lemonnier, that seemed to be the case with yours!) Documentation seems
inadequate, and in any case, I haven't succeeded with it yet.

In short, I've been flailing around a lot with no results. So it would be
nice if a successful user said "Go download this version of Ghostscript from
here, unzip it there, and use this syntax to load a PDF. And then for
PS_View, go here, etc. Now get this Arachne APM ..."

Anyone ready, willing, and able?
