 It's been three or four years since I ran windo$e,
but I was able to run all my DOS apps. I ran 2k but XP
is pretty much the same. In XP you will want to try
running "compatibility mode". Make a shortcut icon to
Arachne's executable on your desktop, then rightclick,
click on properties, then click the compatibility tab.
There should be a DOS or 95 or 98 choice. The only thing
I remember odd about running Arachne in 2k, is I kept
ending up with two Arachne temp directories, but that
didn't seem to cause me any problems. XP will run almost
ALL DOS apps. Business's demand legacy support from M$,
AND XP, I have to admit, is good about it. I used a
shortcut to a.bat on my desktop to start Arachne and
it would popup in a CMD window, which you can also modify
the properties of. XP is an infinitely better system than
any of the 9x series windo$e. Give yourself a chance to
get used to it, before you judge it. I hope this helps you.

I got a present... an other computer with Windows XP already installed,
a situation many people meet today.

How to use Arachne, is that possible?

First i collected Arachne 190J1, unpacked the zip file and got the 190j1
..exe file.
I clicked this one and all seemed well, it unpacked to all the files
needed to run Arachne, i just clicked in XP.

I was asked to try the video and memory... all well and the first Arachne
screen was on the monitor.
No modem was installed an F10 was used to view some images in the
computer, all was still performing well.

Today I tried Arachne again... the arachne.bat was gone so no action
followed. Arachne.bat copied to the Arachne directory.

The official setup was used... modem detection failed and the DOS
routine was closed to XP :-)

Second try: modem installed in arachne.cfg including telephone number to
ISP, username, password and nameservers.

Dialing was not possible and Arachne went back to XP.
