[arachne] Re: Arachne Ubuntu Linux - /dev/mouse not found

Hey, Michael
Your problem maybe the fact you have no /dev/mouse in
your /dev directory. You need to symlink the device your
mouse is using to /dev/mouse. I noticed you have several
possibilities that your system maybe using. On my system
/dev/mouse is linked to /dev/input/mice. Yours could be
using that or /dev/psaux or /dev/input/mouse0 1 2 or 3.
Even something else. If you could post your xorg.conf file,
I may be able to figure out what device driver your system
is using. If nothing else, a tedious but possibly effective
way to get it working would be to symlink each one in turn
to find out which is being used, but that would be a last
resort. Try this command.
#>ln -s /dev/psaux /dev/mouse
Then see if it works, there are only so many devices for a
PS2 mouse.

The kind of guitar I want to play is mean, mean licks.

Hi!

On Ubuntu Linux the install script isn't working because the
/dev/mouse is not found.

Is there a fix?

First, and most importantly ... are you logged-in as root ?

Yes, otherwise the installer would stop more early already.

To do the install... you must login as root.

After installing....
root can then grant permission for anyone to use Arachne....
but only root can do the install.

If your attempting the install as root but /dev/mouse is not found.....

Is your system setup to use /dev/mouse for your pointing device ?

I don't know how to see this, don't know much about Linux. I did just
take VMware 6.5 and installed Ubuntu 8.04. Later I use remastersys and
deploy the image to real hardware.

Or is it perhaps some other device ?

Dunno if it helps, but I pasted by whole /dev/*.
